end of eras
Tonight is the last show at The Vineyard (or ARM House, whatever you prefer to call it). I haven’t wanted to put much thought into it being the last show, because I was really hoping someone will find a way to keep it going by any means necessary. I don’t know if it’s even possible any more, so I might as well come to terms with it being the last show there.
The Vineyard has been a huge part of our band since it first started doing shows in August of 2007. We’ve played some of our most memorable shows there. It was the first place I remember people singing along at the end of Parade Rest, first place Corey played a full set with us, first place we had an official CD release party (Now That We’re Alive). I couldn’t believe how sad I was when I heard there wouldn’t be a DIT Fest this year. And really, a DIT Fest couldn’t happen anywhere other than The Vineyard. It was really the perfect space. A DIY venue that was actually comfortable to be in, decent sound system, a carpeted(!) stage, and a kitchen. and most importantly people that cared. The people that helped run it always made sure everyone was taken care of, always stocked with baked goods for those in need.
This place has been a corner stone in the community, and without it there will be a huge void in Kent, OH. With knowledge that places like the Monster House in Columbus and others are about to go under, it just really hits home how important it is to not take these places for granted. Without places like these, we could just be living in any boring town with people who don’t care about what’s around them.
The ARM organization will continue to help people, so help them out with any donations you can give.
